XRP has experienced a series of triumphs and significant challenges since its inception. Launched in 2012, the XRP platform, initially known as Ripple Transaction Protocol (RTXP), adopted XRP as its currency code, following the naming convention of BTC for Bitcoin.
In 2020, XRP faced its most substantial hurdle when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against Ripple and two executives, accusing them of conducting a $1.3 billion unregistered securities offering. This legal battle caused XRP to miss the entire bull cycle in 2021. However, on April 10th 2025, the SEC and Ripple Labs agreed to pause their appeals in the ongoing lawsuit to engage in settlement discussions.
After four years of price suppression, the outlook for XRP appears promising. Recent news suggests a positive trajectory for XRP’s price. Global banking giant Standard Chartered predicts that XRP could reach $5.50 by the end of this year and climb as high as $12.50 by 2028. Additionally, Ripple Technologies Corporation has agreed to acquire prime brokerage firm Hidden Road for $1.25 billion. This acquisition is one of the largest deals in the digital asset space to date. Hidden Road plans to use Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, launched in December 2024, as collateral across its prime brokerage products.
Technical analysis on Trading View currently indicates a buy signal for XRP based on overall summary and moving averages, although oscillators remain neutral. A chart analysis of XRP on the 1-day timeframe reveals as of today a potential reverse head and shoulders pattern, suggesting that the price could soon reach $2.45. With all the positive news surrounding XRP, momentum is building for a significant price increase in the coming weeks to months. The only potential obstacles to XRP’s price progression are President Trump’s tariff issues and the possibility of the SEC reneging on the lawsuit negotiations, which seems unlikely at this time.
